First Update: Monologues, Videos, Torrents, and Podcasts

H'ok, so, time for the first update.

I am now, thankfully, typing this in my own home. We have internet taken care of and the mic arrived. Tomorrow, I plan to spend some time setting up my... well, setup, and getting everything working barring any problems. Unfortunately, Ubuntu generally believes it will do whatever it wants whenever it wants, so we'll see.

In addition to that, I've been making steady progress through one of my old acting books and begun work on a monologue. I've also been thinking of some more voices / speeches / singers I'd like to imitate and get up on the YouTube channel soon. I plan to eventually get a rendition of a Scars on 45 song up as well as something by Frank Sinatra.

Something I've been struggling with is a childhood block. When I was younger, I was very sullen (like many teens, I assume). I spent my time learning how to play villains. Thing is, I've grown up to be a very nice guy and prefer to play the hero. I play a villain so well, I'm not even sure how to play a character like Goku, Vegeta was always my favorite. I've been straining to find well-adjusted, interesting characters who represent a force for good. In fact, the first monologue I plan on working on is a speech from Hamlet (no, not that speech). Brooding, moody, and tortured is just easier for me. As such, I'm making it my mission to discover a genuine, goodhearted character for a video or two from now to add to my catalog.

I also heard a rather interesting rendition of a poem written by Abraham Lincoln (or at least attributed to him) that I may also try to work with. Very dark, but very beautiful, it reminds me of Lovecraft, something else I may need to try.

Besides those, I also meant to mention that I will eventually be posting a link to the torrents for a voice project I helped with a couple of months ago. Last winter, some friends and I started reading what many people consider to be the single worst fanfic imaginable. The rendition, and recording quality, aren't as spectacular as I would hope, but my chapters hint at my vocal range. Plus, gaming groups are a ton of fun to listen to and this fic is truly terrifying. What is it, you may ask? My Immortal. It really is a cross between a self-serving, Mary Sue, generic, vampire fanfic crossed with Harry Potter. That doesn't even begin to describe its horror. I won't regale my currently non-existent audience with it now, but it's awful.

The fanfic did bring up interesting things voice acting wise, though. It lead to the idea of possibly recording more novels or fanfics. As of right now, my personal forerunners are any MLPFIM (yes, I am part of that internet) fic, a Lovecraft story, or a story about a time-traveling, Navy Seal, Viking. Heeeyup.

The conversations with those guys also lead to ideas of starting up a podcast, something I'm still interested in. If it happens, it would be similar to Fear the Boot, a gaming podcast about roleplaying and geekdom.

So, I guess that's the first update and I'll be back with more soon. *blushing* I'm sure the walls of text will subside when I get into a semi-regular rhythm with these posts. Well, that and having less to update y'all on.

Cheers,
Drew
