Welcome traveler!
If you're reading this, you've found the acting and voice acting blog of Drew Copenhaver. At the time of writing this, I'm no one you've ever heard of (unless you know me personally).
A little about me:
I'm starting this blog to coincide with my recent career change. During my time in college, I studied International Studies with a focus on Security and Intelligence. I also minored in Computer Programming. I majored in Theater long enough to get a minor, as well. Unfortunately, I allowed more pragmatic, less artistic people to convince me that I needed to become a functioning member of society (which, of course, meant a technical, economically-intelligent career path).
I worked in a copywriting job for around eight months after college. Slowly, the creativity drained from my tasks and the focus shifted. As this happened, I experienced more and more stress. Why? Honestly, I think it has to do with artistic tendencies. I've been acting and making funny voices since I could talk. Fantastic stories to explain where the cookies went, stage appearances, and dozens of Dungeons and Dragons characters. I love funny voices, acting, and being overtly ridiculous. I also paint regularly, though I'm not amazing at it.
So who am I? I'm me and I'm going to be everything I've ever wanted. That's the title of this blog, Voz De Suenos, the voice of dreams is the voice in my dreams. I'm done being who I'm not and crafting my reality in the only way I know how, through hard work, dedication, and a little fun. Join me on my journey to become an amazing actor.
About this blog:
You might be asking: What's going on here? Why are there walls of text? Should I just stop reading? The answers are art, because I love writing, and no. I'll occasionally be updating with what's going on in real life and everyday things, but this blog is primarily professional. I plan to post status updates on the projects and monologues I'm working on as well as notes for myself about the work I'm doing for certain voices / pieces.
So, what can you expect here? A personal perspective of the growing process of becoming an actor. I'm going to have to rediscover my old talents (believe me, it's been awhile) and push forward into the great unknown. I'll update as often as I can and let you know where you'll be able to find me.
Next steps:
As of right now, I'm waiting on my new microphone to arrive and for my internet to get setup at the new apartment. While I'm waiting, I'm gearing up for a job search, doing some volunteer work, and looking for promising mods to do free voice work. Video Game Mods, vlogs, and abridged series on YouTube are a great way to build a resume and work towards (yes towards, I like British writing and the Oxford comma) a voice acting career.
In the past, I've worked on a couple of things like that and will be doing so again soon. I've just created a new YouTube page which is tied to this blog. Check me out! There aren't any videos yet, but I plan to have some up within a week of receiving internet service at home.
At the moment, I'm looking at writing a monologue to display some of my favorite voices, post an instructional video I made for my last job, and work on a monologue from Hamlet or another play.
I should have a status update on these things in the next couple of days, so stay tuned!
Cheers,
Drew
