Well, I've been looking at voice acting blogs all morning. I'd definitely recommend checking out The Voice Over Boblog, Vox Daily, and interviews with any voice actors you really respect. I found a great NPR interview with Billy West and a recent video interview of Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat.
This morning, I also started writing the monologue for my first or second video. I've made the decision to split my character work with my accent work. I think it's the right decision. My reasoning? Working with accents showcases one thing while working with characters shows another (or it should).
So, what am I working on? This first monologue will have a movie announcer voice, Death [Soul Eater], Spike [Cowboy Bebop], Vegeta [DBZ], Hiei [Yu Yu Hakusho], Gollum, Roy/Moss/Richmond [IT Crowd], and an old prospector. I may add others if I think of them, but that seems to be a good place to begin. I just need to find a way to make it dialogue and not a solid monologue with different voices. I always had trouble with that when writing my ill-fated novel. Poor little guy needs more editing than I'm willing to give. Guess that's why I'm not a writer.
Besides that, I'm considering picking up some video editing software (since I'll need it for my YouTube account anyhow) and starting Bebop Abridged. I do so love doing Spike's, or rather Steven Jay Blum's, voice. Since audio books can be a good way to get started in VA or VO work, I think I'll also try and get a recording of Call of Cthulhu or a shorter Lovecraft story soon.
